Tasmania

Affectionately known as “Tassie”, Tasmania is Australia’s smallest state and rich in rainforests, history, rugged coastlines, unique wildlife and beautiful beaches.  Tasmania is an untouched paradise and could arguably be considered as one of Australia’s best kept secrets!  The last 10 years have seen Tassie emerge as a prominent wine and food destination.  Perhaps it is the reported world’s purest air and water that lends it hand to the Tassie produce?  Hobart, Tassie’s capital city boasts Australia’s largest natural harbour, visited by many Antarctica Vessels to replenish supplies.  The Saturday morning Salamanca Market in Hobart has become a must do for all when visiting this harbour city.

The city of Hobart, with its captivating history and iconic waterfronts, also offers attractions like the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) for interactive art experiences, and Australia’s longest running theatre, called Theatre Royal.

At just under two hours from Hobart you will find Port Arthur, world-class tourist destination and a UNESCO World Heritage-listed Australian Convict Site.  Learn the many stories of the region’s convict history, search through convict records or embark on one of Port Arthur’s nightly Ghost Tours

Bruny Island is comprised of two islands joined by a small sandy beach bank and visitors enjoy the island’s many towering cliffs, long sandy beaches, coastal heathland and marvellous bushwalks.  The island is also a place with a variety of wildlife from albino wallabies to nocturnal creatures like quolls and even penguins as well as a range of rare and endangered plants and animals.

You’ll love the island-state’s breathtaking national parks!  Freycinet National Park, on Tasmania's east coast, is much-loved by travellers for its stunning granite peaks and the famous Wineglass Bay region.  Here you can embark on a variety of activities from climbing to mountain walking, hiking and even bird-watching.  Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park is known for its jagged peaks, alpine lakes with crystal-clear still waters, and the region’s many wilderness experiences like multi-day walking treks.
